LOST OR
FOUND AN ANIMAL/BIRD/REPTILE ETC
Your first call should
be to your local animal shelter. If one isn't listed on this site try
Yellow Pages or your local Council Environmental Dept. The Council has
a legal responsibility for strays and will be able to tell you where they
are taken to. Before you telephone please have as much of the following
information available as possible:
Male/Female?:
Colour: Type/Breed: Size: Age: Name: Coat
type: Neutered?: Collar: Disc: I.D. Chip:
Date and time lost/found: Where lost/found: Distinguishing
marks
The shelter may have thousands
of lost and found animals on record and the more accurate the information
on file the more chance they have of re-uniting a lost pet with its owners.
IF YOU'VE
LOST YOUR PET
If possible take them a photograph of your pet.
You could also advertise in the newspapers and the shops. If you would
like some help putting together a lost poster click HERE
for a sample.
If you get your pet back without the shelter knowing please let them know
so that they can amend their records which will make it easier for other
people's pets to be found.
AS WELL AS
REPORTING YOUR LOSS IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU VISIT THE SHELTER TO
ENSURE THAT YOUR LOST PET IS NOT THERE. REMEMBER YOUR DESCRIPTION OF YOUR
DOG OR CAT MAY NOT TOTALLY MATCH THEIR DESCRIPTION, THEREFORE IT
IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU VISIT AT LEAST TWICE PER WEEK
IF YOU'VE
FOUND A DOG OR CAT
Please contact your local shelter. Someone may already have
reported it missing. Also look out for advertisements in your local shops
and the newspaper.
If you have found a dog or cat and would like to keep it you are entitled
to do so as long as you have reported your find. If it is not claimed
within 28 days it becomes your legal property.
There is a very comprehensive and useful list of what to do if you've lost or found a cat on the Catchat website.
